Other medical staff

We are rightly proud of our outstanding, strong and comprehensive clinical team at Friarsgate. Their professional excellence ensures we are able to provide health support to all our patients, at all stages of their lives.

Meet the medical team who work alongside our GPs:

Primary Care Nurses

Our practice nurses work in direct liaison with the doctors to provide nursing care for our patients.

  • Lifestyle Management - weight control, exercise, diet and stop smoking advice
  • Cervical Screening
  • Sexual Health Services
  • Travel Consultations
  • Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) checks
  • Diabetes reviews
  • Cardiac checks
  • Treatment room appointments
  • Baby Immunisations
  • Vasectomies

We would like to welcome two new practice nurses, Jacky and Rae, who have recently joined The Friarsgate Practice.

Our practice nurse team is now offering extended hour’s service at Friarsgate main site. Nurse appointments are now available on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. Please contact the reception team to make a convenient appointment.

Health Care Assistants

We also have a HCA who provides a range of services and assists the Practice Nurses in the provision of the above care.

Treatment Room Nurses

A nurse is available every morning and afternoon for dressings, removal of stitches, injections and ear syringing. To make an appointment, please ring our reception at the Medical Centre on 0844 477 0947, at Badger Farm on 01962 877222 or at Kings Worthy on 01962 882957.

Community Nurses

Our community nurses provide services for the housebound and chronically sick. You can contact any member of the team directly between 1 pm - 2 pm on 0844 477 0947. At any other time during working hours please call the surgery where a message can be passed on for you.

Midwives

Our midwives provide antenatal and postnatal care, alongside your doctor throughout the duration of your pregnancy. They also undertake postnatal home visits. You can contact a midwife by phone on 0844 477 0947. If no-one is unavailable you can leave a message for the midwife to contact you.

Primary Care Mental Health Practitioner

Our Mental Health Practitioner is able to offer a supportive and therapeutic space in which to discuss personal, emotional or relationship problems. Through a short course of sessions the client is encouraged to identify key therapeutic goals. Techniques used include cognitive behavioural therapy (looking at the links between thoughts and feelings); developing assertiveness skills and looking at how to develop and improve relationships. To access this service you must be referred by your GP.

Health Visitors

Our Health Visitors have a special interest in health promotion and education, including child health and development.

Should you require advice, or need a visit, please telephone 01962 763985. Please call between 9 am - 10 am during weekdays if you need to speak to a Health Visitor directly. At other times, a message can be left on their answering machine.

Care Managers

Care managers work with older people, their carers and their relatives to arrange individual packages of care. Please call them on  0845 603 5630 / 0845 603 5638.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapist

We have a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist at the Practice who can be accessed through referral from your GP.

General Practice Registrars

We often have fully qualified doctors who have been employed in hospital medicine working with us. As part of their training, they join us for one year to gain experience of Primary Care.

Medical and Nursing Students

Occasionally medical and nursing students sit in on consultations and visits to gain experience in primary care. If you prefer to see the doctor alone, please tell the receptionist who can arrange it simply and without causing embarrassment.
