Mental health services

Friarsgate pioneered attached Community Psychiatric Nurses and still maintains close links with the community mental health team. With their excellent support, patients with major mental health problems are now very well supported in the community.

Elderly patients with mental health problems can access similar community based psychiatric services who work closely alongside their GP colleagues. Uniquely in Winchester, Friarsgate also has two very experienced social workers who are vital in ensuring that patients access all the care they need to remain as independent as possible during their mental and physical difficulties.

*Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological therapy based on scientific principles. Research has shown it is effective for a wide range of problems including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias. CBT is based on the idea that your patterns of thinking can affect how your body reacts, how you feel, and how you act. However, it is not just another method of positive thinking. The focus of CBT is to help you think of new solutions to your problems that are more helpful than your present ways of coping.
